Redbox Marketing Strategy: Reasons Why I Love It

Why the Redbox Marketing Strategy Wins Hands Down

Redbox Marketing Strategy – what does this even have to do with me? Listen up. So it’s a late Saturday night (10:43pm PST to be exact) and I am bored. So I decided to do something naturally that anyone should do. Go check out a movie. I’ve nearly exhcuashed an endless supply of Netflix instant stream movies. I needed something different. And I want it now of course.

Enter Redbox. So instead of driving around town I do what any natural curious soul would do. Go to redbox.com and find out what movies are actual at the kiosk before driving all over town. Then I saw it and nearly wanted to cry.

I nearly cried (except not really).

So why should you even really care at all about this Redbox marketing strategy on Facebook? Because of several reasons at least that I think are important in terms of their social media approach.

1. There is a call to action with an offer you can’t refuse: “Like us and get a free movie rental.” That caught my attention right away.

2. You only have one option. And that is to “Like” their page, then you gain awesome access to their content that is only available on Facebook.

3. You can’t do anything else on there. There are no real distractions on here at all outside of maybe a cute girl who shows up under the “People you may know” section.

4. The look and feel is simple and it’s clean.  There is nothing brain damaging about trying to figure out what they want you to do.

5. Go claim your free movie rental now!

Okay Mr. Redbox Marketing Strategy, where did you get your smarts?

So after the ‘transaction’ occurs and you Like the page, this is what happens. You get to see the insides of Redbox’s Facebook Fan Page. I know, the oohhs and aaahhs really aren’t coming out of your mouth quite yet. Again marketing simplicity at it’s best. I’m greeted with the coupon code. No hassle, no other hoops to jump through. I get the coupon for instant redemption. I don’t even have to bring my cell phone with me. So here are several other ways that the Redbox marketing strategy actually works to engage the customer.

redbox marketing strategy 1. They ask a question about Mick Jagger coming back. Asking a question is a great way to share some little bit of content on Facebook and then let your community interact. As of this writing there are 362 Likes and 587 Comments from different people. How much power does this show behind the brand?

2. They share trivia on there that gets the audience guessing. 643 Likes and 2,311 Comments again from one three line sentence.

Granted when you do have 3,629,936 it can be a bit daunting to wrangle with those numbers. And they are  a national brand. But even for someone like you who owns a small business who’s got some unique niche you dominate in, why can’t you create something like this? Something like the Redbox marketing strategy. Granted this post focused solely on their Facebook strategy, but it’s got several good qualities built right in. Clearly it’s successful. Their offer works. It’s simple and I get instant gratification.

So this leaves me with this question. What can you offer for free that doesn’t cost you anything or is so low in cost that it can be treated as a loss leader? What would be something that’s unique to your business that you can get your Facebook fan page actually rolling with people who drool over anything you say on there?
